The Independent Schools Football Association for Girls - ISFAG

ISFAG is affiliated to the ISFA and has been launched in conjunction with the FA to oversee and govern the playing and development of girls football in the Independent Schools sector. To find out more about ISFAG, please read our Chairman's introductory letter, or click on the About the ISFAG link on the right.

With our own coaches, ISFAG works with schools to provide a structured development programe for girls starting at Preparotory Schools and continuing all the way through to when they leave the Sixth Form. Part of our remit is to identify talent and then nurture that talent to fulfill the potential of girls that we coach. With this aim in mind there is a clearly defined player development structure, utilising our own regional development centres and representative teams and even with progression for talented girls to represent the ISFAG National Team in fixtures around the world.

Another role of the ISFAG is to manage the FA's 3 Lions FC and FA Club Link programmes for girls at independent schools. For girls who wish to play football outside of the school environment, we will introduce the girls to carefully selected local football clubs, all of which must have attained FA Charter status. The ISFAG Football Development Plan for 2006-2009 has been put together in conjunction with the ISFA & FA. The FA’s vision of ‘Using the power of football to build a better future’ can be truly brought to life with a target group of over 150,000 girls in the independent sector who at this moment have little or no development pathway.

“It is our vision to ensure that all females in the independent sector have the opportunity to participate in football activities and are able to reach their full potential.”

We have jointly developed a strategic direction for girls’ football in the independent schools sector for the period 2006- 2009 by working in partnership with the FA, CFA’s and the ISFA to deliver key core FA Football Development objectives.

Welsh Schools Football Association

"The aim and objectives of WSFA, in addition to organising competitions is to inspire young people throughout our member schools to play the game and oversee development. Without question the football developement experiences offered by inspiresport for junior players of all standards is of the very highest standard and complements activities we are undertaking within schools and junior clubs across Wales." Chris Whitley, Chief Executive WSFA

Schools football has been the bedrock of player participation and development for countless years. The Welsh Football Trust has recognised the importance of this by forming a strong partnership with the governing body for schools football, the Welsh Schools Football Association, to offer financial and professional support for the activities it undertakes, including most importantly, the National teams and Development squads.

We also offer schools throughout Wales a programme of support to attract the interest of young players to the game and assist teachers in establishing football in the curriculum, as well as after school clubs and festivals for pupils to play competitive games. This hopefully will lead them to further their interest and play on a more regular basis by joining a local junior club.

Aims of the W.S.F.A.

  • to encourage the mental, moral and physical development of pupils through the medium of Association Football
  • to provide competitions for pupils in both Primary and Secondary schools
  • to provide International Football at Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 ages under the rules of the Schools Association Football International Board
  • to work with the F.A.W. and the Welsh Football Trust in the identification and development of players

Player Development:

Working together, the W.S.F.A. and the Welsh Football Trust organise a programme of player identification and establish National Development Squads for 14 and 15 year olds. Squads comprise between 20 and 30 players including Welsh qualified players living outside Wales. The Welsh Football Trust Technical Manager for Player Development is responsible for the programme.

Welsh Netball Association

The aims of Welsh Netball have always been to promote, encourage and further the game of netball in Wales. Events organised by the WNA are numerous and include international matches; national championships; clinics for players; courses and seminars for coaches and umpires and an award scheme, which enables those coaches and umpires to gain qualifications.

Welsh teams play internationally at Open, Under 21 or Under 19 (depending on the European netball calendar) and Under 17 levels. The first international event played by a Welsh team was in 1949, when Wales lost to England but beat Scotland.

Since 2003 Welsh Netball has developed partnerships with many of the Unitary Authorities in Wales to employ local netball development officers, people on the ground to help organise and run community projects and increase participation, particularly with women and young girls.

The Welsh Netball strategy sets out the following vision statements for our organisation to allow members of all ages and abilities to enjoy our sport through a programme of activities for participation, development and excellence.
  • Netball is a game for all
  • Netball is a leading participation sport for women in Wales.
  • Welsh Netball can attract and retain members by providing opportunities for them to perform and achieve at their highest level, whether as players, coaches, umpires, officials or administrators.
  • Welsh Netball is a successful and effective organisation both in competition and administration
