Team Information

Feyenoord Rotterdam, founded in 1908 is the dominant of the three professional clubs based in the city. The club has won fourteen national titles since the introduction of professional football in the Netherlands.

From humble origins in the working class district, the club has built a rich history and fine heritage of trophies.  It has hosted a record 10 finals of UEFA club competitions, including the momentous 2004 UEFA Cup when Feyenoord were victorious against Dortmund.  Consistently ranked in the top 3 clubs in the Netherlands, its arch rival is Ajax. Every year, competition between the Artists of Amsterdam and Feyenoord culminates in 'The Classic' match between the two teams.

Its stadium Stadion Feijenoord more popularly known as De Kuip (‘the Tub’) with a 51,480 capacity is the second largest football stadium in the country. De Kuip is located in the southeast of the city and has hosted many international football games, including the final of Euro 2000 and has been awarded a FIFA 5-star ranking.

About the City

The port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe and was the world’s busiest port from 1962 to 2004. Shanghai Rotterdam is situated on the banks of the river Nieuwe Maas (‘New Meuse’), one of the channels in the delta formed by the Rhine and Meuse rivers. The name Rotterdam derives from a dam in the Rotte river.

Rotterdam attracts 4 million visitors a year.  It is internationally renowned for its modern architecture, with some fine examples in the city centre including the Cube Houses, the Luxor Theatre and Erasmus Bridge.  One of the main attractions is the Diergaarde Blijdorp, an extensive zoo with impressive oceanium.
