Paris Saint Germian – The Club
The club Paris Saint Germain, more commonly known as PSG, was founded on 12 August 1970 as a result of a merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain.They are the longest serving club in Ligue 1 having entered the league in 1974.PSG enjoy a fierce rivalry with Olympique Marseille and the matches between the two sides are known as Le Classique.
The Parc des Princes, with a capacity of 48,712 seats, has been Paris Saint-Germain’s home since 1973. The stadium has held several European Cup Finals and was the home of the French Football & Rugby teams until the Stade du France was built in 1998. The clubs average home attendance for the 2013-14 season was 45,420, the highest in Ligue 1.
In 2012 Qatar Investment Authority became the sole shareholder of PSG after purchasing the remaining shares of the club. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifiannounced that he would invest heavily in the transfer market in order to make PSG one of the most recognised football brands in the world.
The Training Facilities
The Camp des Loges serves as the home facility for the club’s reserves and academy sides and female sides, who play their home matches at the Stade GeorgesLefèvre. It is located in the commune of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, located in the western suburbs of Paris. The facility is known for its high-level training and several prominent players have passed through the youth training centre.
The main objective of the Camp des Loges is training elite players while providing a suitable learning curriculum. A host of great French players, who have gone on to play for the national football team, have trained at the academy. The Camp des Loges was recognised by the French Football Federation as one of the best formation and pre-formation centres in France, being classified as Elite in 2009.
Availability to train at the Camp des Loges is strictly limited and subject to availability, however in instances when groups are not able to train at this PSG Academy facility other good quality satellite training facilities will be used including Urban football centres located around the city.
